U.S. Senate candidate Paul Wellstone campaigns in suburban Minneapolis in October 1990. Wellstone, a populist and politcal science professor at Carleton College in Northfield, MN., was outspent 7-1 by incumbent republican Rudy Boschwitz, but won the election by a narrow margin. He was re-elected in 1996 and was currently locked in a tight race with St. Paul Mayor Norm Coleman when he was killed in a plane crash Friday morning in northern Minnesota. His wife and daughter were also killed as well as three staff members and two pilots. I will post more images from Wellstone's 1990 campaign as I find the negatives (this image was scanned from a copy slide). Read the story of the 1990 race from the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
