Pastor Raymond Hunter and his congregation at Eagle's Wing Ministries Church of God In Christ bought a new building to house their new sanctuary in August 2005. Their first service would be Sunday August 28. Instead, Hunter and his family evacuated to Memphis to escape Hurricane Katrina. They returned October 12, the first day residents were allowed to return to the neighborhood to "look and leave." The new church building had taken on more than ten feet of water. Their previous building on collapsed altogether. Hunter never wavered in his commitment to bring his family and his flock back to New Orleans. With the help of his four sons, Hunter gutted and re-built the church and several family homes. They re-opened the church in the fall of 2006, and held a banquet and re-dedication ceremony at the end of April 2007.
